Heart & Vascular Center welcomes new interventional cardiologist to physician group

The Heart & Vascular Center of Northern Arizona (HVCNA) has expanded its physician group in Cottonwood and Sedona, adding a new interventional cardiologist. Steven M. Heilbrunn, M.D., is the newest member of the physician group. Dr. Heilbrunn practices in the HVCNA Cottonwood and Sedona locations.

Dr. Heilbrunn joins lipidologist Kenneth Bescak, M.D.; interventional cardiologists Sam Butman, M.D., and Bruce Peek, M.D.; cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon John Schor, M.D.; and nurse practitioners Fran Willetts, A.C.N.P., and Monica Rauton, D.N.P., A.N.P.-B.C. As a board-certified interventional cardiologist, Dr. Heilbrunn specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of heart and vascular conditions including coronary interventions for acute and chronic coronary artery disease, peripheral vascular angiography and intervention, non-coronary cardiac interventions for structural heart disease, and noninvasive cardiology including nuclear cardiology. He is certified to perform transesophageal echocardiograms. With the addition of Dr. Heilbrunn, this procedure now is available at HVCNA – Cottonwood.

Prior to joining HVCNA, Dr. Heilbrunn worked as an interventional cardiologist at several prestigious hospitals in Pennsylvania. He served as the director and assistant professor of interventional cardiology at Temple University in Philadelphia. He has authored numerous articles related to cardiovascular interventions, procedures and the use of medications to treat patients. Additionally, he has led multiple research projects in the area of pharmaceutical treatment options. 

Dr. Heilbrunn earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1981. He completed his internship and physician residency programs in internal medicine at Boston University, after which he went on to complete two fellowship programs at the prestigious Stanford University Medical Center – the first fellowship in cardiology, followed by a fellowship in interventional cardiology.

Dr. Heilbrunn is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. His professional associations include the American College of Physicians, American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association, among others.
