David Caparrelli, M.D

David Caparrelli, M.D., F.A.C.S., is a cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon at the Heart & Vascular Center of Northern Arizona.

Expertise and Special Interests
Dr. Caparrelli specializes in performing minimally invasive and traditional open heart surgery, including coronary artery bypass, valve repair and replacement, surgical removal of intracardiac tumors and repair of heart defects. He also has a special interest and expertise in the treatment of patients with aneurysms and peripheral vascular disease utilizing both traditional open and cutting edge endovascular techniques.

Before joining HVCNA, Dr. Caparrelli spent five years as a cardiovascular surgeon at the Arizona Heart Institute in Phoenix. He is deeply committed to combining innovative procedures with a patient-centered focus to provide exceptional heart and vascular care for patients in Northern Arizona.

Education and Certifications
Dr. Caparrelli received a chemistry degree from Princeton University and his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine where he spent an additional year as a post-doctoral research fellow in thoracic oncology.

He completed his general, vascular and cardiothoracic surgical residencies at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, Md.

Dr. Caparrelli has published numerous articles and authored several chapters related to cardiovascular medicine. He also has received numerous awards during his career including the C. Walton Lillehei-Earl Bakken Cardiac Surgery Resident Award presented at the 2008 Society of Thoracic Surgeons annual meeting.

Dr. Caparrelli is board certified in cardiothoracic, vascular and general surgery.
